To the ladies with HSV. I have HSV not sure if it's 1 or 2 but every month about a week before my period I get a terrible breakout. I'm sure it's caused by a change of hormones but what can I do to lessen the breakout/ stop it..anything. It's become a pattern just over the last year.

Before you decide to start taking medicine every day, it may be worth it to try using summers eve feminine wash in the shower. It balances your ph levels, which I'm sure is affected by getting your period! It could be something causing your outbreaks every month like that. Good luck!

I used to be in a similar pattern as you. Ask your doctor to put you on suppression therapy for it. You will have to take it every day. I only took it for a few months but now I hardly break out and if I do it's very mild.

I take 4g of Lysine, 1g of Valtrex a day I haven't had any problems with outbreaks and I have never infected anyone in my life. I have been positive for 16 years. I would love a cure!!! I can't wait for that!!!!! I don't suggest high doses of Valtrex because it is tough on the liver. Just be careful and get a doctor's guidance. To find out if you do have herpes ask for a herpes titer it identified Herpes Simplex Virus Antibody (IgM). Good luck! Always use condoms even if they have herpes!!!!

Hi...Wow, although I am still not sure if I have ever had a breakout, and if so, it was not severe...I can sure empathize with your situation! I am not trying to "play Dr.", but I have done endless hours of research...There are natural protocols out there to treat HSV; you can research these online...Some of these supplements include essential oil of Mellissa, Oil of Oregano, Monolaurin, hydrogen peroxide (careful with food grade!) and Lysine, an amino acid which has been used for decades...Now, If I was you, I would definitely get tested with the HSV antibodies test which identifies which type, because IF it is HSV-2, there is going to be a vaccine that is said to be a virtual CURE...especially for women! Should be out soon...I came into this forum to see if anyone knows when it is coming out. There is tons of info online....I took a so-called "cure" and tried to take the maximum doses of supplements, for about 1 month, but still tested positive 2 months from then, but at a lower level, but that could be due to being further from initial exposure? Like you, I still have lots of questions...I wish you the best! {ost if you find interesting info. Thanks...we are in this together! Not even my closest friends know...This is a tough thing...
